The nightmare weke (Upeneus taeniopteris), also known as obake weke, weke pueo, or weke pahulu, is a native reef fish said to cause nightmares and hallucinations if eaten (particularly the head and guts). What it is that causes this effect is unknown, but speculation tends to focus on something the fish eats.
